Promo to date

Well I have begun the final art. The outlines have been completed and now I have started color.

The way I do the outlines is to use the pencil tool to draw the lines. I then move the anchor points around to tweak the line shape. Once I get them to my linking, I then add several stroke weights. The paths are then converted to shapes and then the endpoints are joined together. That is how I get my thicks and thins. It is very time consuming. I have been experimenting with the brush tool to see if I can get the similar results but haven't come up with anything I like. The search continues.

Promo to date

Here is the sketch for the promo piece. It is a bookmark. I thought this would work better than a business card or postcard since it has a purpose. Hopefully people will hang onto it and pitch into the garbage or recycling. Maybe it has a dual purpose. You can use it as a toothpick to get out those pieces of steak that get stuck between your teeth.

The blue area just represents where the type will go. I was just going to do a few characters and place them on the bookmark but got to thinking it should be more conceptual. The idea is that there is really no top or bottom, like a playing card. Since it is a bookmark, I wanted to tie in books somehow. So the pigeon relates to a guy holding a book over his head. the book title is "Bird Poop-Facts About Birds" by E.W. Droppings. The second set of images is a sloppy eating monster. The little girl is reading a book called "Table MAnners For Monsters" by C.A. Glutton. I just started the final art and have a rough idea on how to do the type.

New Promo

Well, I have finally started a new promo piece which is a priority for the new year. I have the concept and images worked out so now I can begin final art. Once the artwork is completed I will post the sketches and final piece. Hopefully people will hold onto this one a bit longer than a business card or postcard.

While working on some ideas for the promo piece, I can up with a couple of concepts for a kids book and animation. The concepts are rattling around my noggin' for now but hope to get them down on paper very soon. Hopefully the voices will not chase them away.

My other pledge for the new year is to write something, anything, on this blog every Friday. So here is entry "one" for the new year.

Until next week, cheers!

My first children's book illustration project

I just illustrated my first children's book, Molly Kite Has Faith, with Maine-based writer Tamra Veilleux. Molly Kite dreams of being a potter but doesn’t know the first thing about forming clay she decides there is only one thing she can do. Learn how seven year old Molly Kite and her constant companion Faith use Law of Attraction to achieve Molly’s dream in short time. It is available at Amazon.com and Booklocker.com.
